"A small Fish 'n' Planets, please." (26th June)

Hi there,

This is my post about Friday the 26th of June.

After our boaty breakfast I won't go into detail about again(!), we decided to go back in the water and do some more snorkelling. As I mentioned in my previous post, we moved from a deeper area to a shallower one and attached to another buoy, we could see the fish from the boat at this second place so were confident the snorkelling would be 100% better.

We changed into our bikinis and various swim accessories, hooked ourselves up to the very attractive snorkel gear and climbed down the steps at the back of the boat and into the water. You could see the fish around us immediately, they didn't swim away from us, it was like they weren't afraid of us at all! It was very cool to swim around so many fish, I took way too many photos and videos and to no surprise at all- they all look bluey/green with the same type of fish in them! Ah well. I used my Kitvision underwater camera I bought especially for this summer and it was great. For a relatively 'cheap' underwater camera, as I definitely didn't have the money to fork out on a GoPro, I was very impressed, for a very low mega pixel quality the pictures are great- crystal clear which is all you can ask for from an underwater camera and video recorder. We all took the opportunity to take some cool underwater selfies..! Alice and Lizzie had a swimming race to the boat. I feel I should also mention, for my own purposes so I remember, Alice thought the fish might eat her. I imagine she thought they might nibble her at the very least, but I can safely report that there were no chunks missing out of Alice by the end of the day, in fact no Alice chunks were missing by the last day on the 30th June!

A surprisingly well framed photo of the fish we swam with
After our underwater fish adventure we wanted to look at the photos we'd all taken, so we tried to load them on  laptop...It was painful. It took a long time for the photos to register on a laptop, but we got there in the end. We were all surprised by the good quality and amused by our ridiculous snorkel selfies.

Once we'd finished looking at the photos we decided to finish watching Hot Fuzz. We all sat around the table and watched it, it's a great film! Go and watch Hot Fuzz if you haven't seen it, in fact go and watch it if you have seen it but not in ages.

Before long it was time to get sailing again, this time to a place called Andratx. On the journey, as I think Alice felt a little queasy again :(, Lizzie, Meg and I all played some card games. Meg has the most incredibly long and durable nails, so an added effect to losing or being the last to put your hand on the snap pile is you more than likely get stabbed by her nails- it adds a whole other level to the game. We also tried to spot some dolphins, but to no avail. I think I saw the back of one but that was about it. Chris pointed one out to us all, but unfortunately it was a loner dolphin and even though we all sat staring at the water we didn't see any more.

Some of the houses we saw from the water were incredible, they looked as if they were just balancing on the edge of the cliff- definitely not my kind of house!

Houses for the fearless
Sarah pointed out the island in the photo below to be 'Dragon Island', named because it looks like a sleeping dragon. (Left to right: Head to tail).

Once we arrived and experienced some very impressive boat reversing and parking (I don't think I'll even be able to park a car!), we sat out on the deck drying our hair after showers and soaking up yet more sun. This is where the old guy in the boat next to us winked at me. Why do I attract the creepers?!

Later on in the evening we all went out for dinner. We walked along the waterfront to a bustling place of small restaurants and gift shops. This is where my harrowing goats cheese tale comes in.. short story, I ordered a veggie burger which said it came with chips and goats cheese. I thought the goats cheese would be on the side much like I figured the chips would be...Unfortunately I was wrong, the veggie 'burger' part was the goats cheese. It got on everything. Goats cheese makes me feel ill, I tried to eat around it as much as possible and mask the retching but it got to a point where I politely had to explain that I couldn't eat it.. I did feel guilty since I wasn't paying, but Lizzie's parents are so lovely they made me feel okay about it. It was briefly stressful though, I was in the place where you don't want to seem rude and ungrateful, but at the same time are genuinely concerned you might retch and throw up- I concluded that would be the more embarrassing situation...

Anyway, of what I did have it was very nice and afterwards we did go and find an ice cream place and I had a very good mango sorbet. And yes, I am aware I broke the golden childhood rule of ' if you don't finish your dinner, no ice cream!' but I paid and I was on holiday! While we enjoyed our ice creams and sorbets we decided to do some wandering, once again with Lizzie as tour operator. Luckily Meg pointed out a gift shop selling 'Thank You' cards, we'd both been hoping to see one in preparation for giving to Chris and Sarah. I thought I was being very organised, until the next day when I realised the card said 'Happy Birthday!' in the middle.... My own mistake I know, but none the less VERY annoying...

On the way back to the boat we admired the view and entrusted Alice with the photo taking.

Andratx at night, Jupiter and Venus in the photo

I found it very cool that we could see Jupiter and Venus! I don't think I'd ever really seen a planet like that before- they were so bright. I'm not sure why, but the photo and being in Spain with my friends just seemed that bit cooler when we were all standing around listening to Alice tell us about the planets. Maybe it was because seeing them made me feel so small and insignificant in such a massive universe, it was rather overwhelming. (It was definitely time for bed when something like that makes me think deep thoughts!)

That's it for Friday, Friday in a nutshell. You may have noticed, as I have, that these posts may be getting increasingly smaller due to Florida getting increasingly closer... I am determined to finish these before Florida, even if that means staying up at stupid o'clock on Saturday night (actually that's a lie, I like my sleep too much for that..)!

Right, I need to go do other important stuff like shower and throw things in my case. (Don't tell my dad I said that.)

Hopefully I'll be back soon,

xxx
